SMART Goal Writing Progress

Several weeks ago, our class was asked to track our goals in an assignment. My goal was to read 3 books by the end of 2020; so by 12/31/2020. As of today, I have completed the 2nd chapter in my first book, and feel that I have made satisfactory progress thus far. With the rate that I am going, I feel confident that I will reach my goal of 3 books by the end of the year. 

I am currently reading, "How To Solve It," by George Polya. The book is about specific methodology the author has found to be useful when solving complex problems in mathematics; so much so that the author has made a detailed step by step list for solving such problems. The book initially delves into topics that will be the outline for the exact methodological process. So far, the message that the author is trying to convey has being portrayed in a pedagogical fashion, where the details of the methodology are primarily implemented and discussed from the point of view of a teacher giving mathematical instruction to their students. Some of the main topics being discussed are the following: what are the unknowns in the problem, what are the data in the problem, what are the conditions in the problem, etc. The book has, to this point, provided an interesting take on mathematical problem solving methodology that will likely be very useful in my further career.

September 2020 Blog Entry - Finding Internet Amidst Chaos

This semester has been particularly stressful given the current climate of the world. Online communications have deemed to be sufficient in most cases, but not without minor deficiencies. For example, internet connection has been a commodity that we must have access to at all times, even though that is not always possible. In my case (as well as many others' cases, I am sure), intermittent technical difficulties seem to be the new norm. Power outages and internet outages are increasingly prevalent in our new lives. Regardless, we must press on and continue to adapt as our world changes. Hopefully, one of us has an epiphany and solves some of the issues that we are facing currently; but until then, it's hard to say that things aren't getting better despite the overwhelming amount of stimulation we all may be experiencing.

Blog - DB Project - Fall 2022

During the Fall semester of 2022, the LSC 394 class had the opportunity to learn about databases. Typically, in my experience, it is not uncommon that when one learns about something initially, in many cases this starts out as talking about the topic for a little while but never actually doing the thing until much later. In the case of LSC 394, the class had the chance to have hands on experiences working with databases in a short amount of time, which subsequently provided the opportunity to experience the differences between traditional Excel spreadsheets and relational databases created using SQL.  To begin the semester, we practiced some more advanced techniques using Excel. Blog Post 3

In the past, it has been noted in my Blogger that I wish to do a form of research. While this is still true, I hope to make clear in this writing that I am striving to preform mathematical research. To accomplish this, I aspire to become a mathematician by profession, whether it be either in industry, government, or academia. I hope to be able to some day solve complex tasks in an area that I am interested in, using the skills that I have worked so hard to develop.  Lately, with the abundance of opportunities for internships I have encountered, I have been able to give a great deal of thought to the above statement.  In particular, there are many fields I have found where there appears to be a larger proportion of research jobs readily available. For instance, machine learning, quantum computing, and statistical and mathematical modeling have peaked my interests as prospects for my future career aspirations.
