1. One year, five years, ten years from now, I hope to be in graduate school working toward higher education which helps me obtain a position that requires mathematical research of some kind. I hope that during that time I will be able to figure out exactly what kind of research I am capable of, which in turn should help shape the way that the future is following that. Depending where I end up, the possibilities of impact may be seemingly countless. For instance, I have research interests in both pure and applied mathematics, which if combined, could open up the possibility of answering and posing new, exciting questions with fruitful implications. My curiosity has motivated me up until this point to look toward these things in particular, as I feel that, if I should reach that aforementioned point in my life, I will have the tools to develop answers to problems that have been crippling to our communities in some respect or another.
2. I feel that we have some serious social issues that our society is battling with currently. Specifically, if we look at the status of our country in particular, we will likely see that there is a great divide in many of the core aspects our of community. Although, judging by how things have been going, I foresee that, despite this being one of the many issues that I deem important enough to pay attention to, we will see (hopefully) some incredible strides in our community toward achieving less of a divide in the near future.
In addition to the social issues we are facing, I feel that there is also many issues of ecological proportions. Whether it comes to climate, food resources, or other common resources necessary for our survival, I feel that this will be another major issue that we will have to grapple with in the coming years; although, this one we may not see as much progress in as soon as the last, comparatively.
3. Making progress toward my undergraduate degree makes me hopeful for the future; especially when I am able to be successful, and that success is clear to me at the given time. I feel that this is an important thing to latch attention to, considering that it is seemingly very easy to become discouraged when dealing with the failure that can come along with learning something new. Despite this, I often find myself excited to be challenged in new ways, because I know that I am slowly (or maybe not so slowly, considering the way this semester went) approaching my overall goals.
